FAQ

NATURAL RUBBER, OUR RAW MATERIAL

How is Sophie la girafe made?

Sophie la girafe is made of 100% natural rubber. To "decorate" it, we use a paint made of 100% natural rubber that we mix with natural pigments.

Discover all the secrets of its manufacture:

What is natural rubber?

100% natural rubber, a pure and living material, is the essence of quality. Just like coffee, natural rubber exists in several varieties, each with different properties.

In a concern of quality and safety, the variety of rubber selected by our care answers very strict mechanical and chemical requirements. It allows the creation of solid products, soft and pleasant to the touch while guaranteeing flexibility and safety for baby. This same rubber is used in the manufacture of surgical gloves and condoms. Like any natural material, it evolves over time.

What are the virtues of natural rubber used in the manufacture of Sophie la girafe ?

Natural rubber, which comes from the Hevea tree, has exceptional properties, including the ability to withstand high levels of stress. This is why it is used in the manufacture of products that must meet high quality requirements.

It is also waterproof, soft and pleasant to the touch.

Where does the natural rubber used in the manufacture of Sophie la girafe come from?

Natural rubber comes from the rubber tree. Every morning, at dawn, traditional tappers extract the rubber from the tree by tapping into the bark.

The rubber tree plantations we use for the production of Sophie la girafe have been established in Malaysia for decades. True to our vision and values, we place great importance on the way it is grown.

What is the difference between natural rubber and plastic?

Natural rubber is a material of vegetable origin while plastic is a material mainly of synthetic origin resulting from petrochemistry.

Sophie la girafe is made from 100% natural rubber from the rubber tree.

What type of paint is used to decorate Sophie la girafe ?

The paints used on Sophie la girafe are made of 100% natural rubber (the same as the one used for the manufacture of Sophie la girafe) and natural pigments. These two materials, once mixed by the operator, form the "paint" known as food quality which is used to decorate Sophie la girafe.

The same brown pigment is applied to make the spots, ears, horns and hooves; the pink pigment to make the mouth and cheeks; and finally the black pigment for the eyes.

Why can the colors be different from one Sophie la girafe to another?

All our giraffes are hand painted. Their color differs according to the quantity of material, the shade of the natural pigment and the gesture of our operators in our workshops.

Each Sophie la girafe is therefore unique.

TAKING CARE OF SOPHIE THE GIRAFFE

How to clean Sophie la girafe ?

For normal use of Sophie la girafe and as indicated on its packaging, cleaning the surface with a cloth moistened with soapy water is sufficient. It is important to note that its whistle creates a hole on its surface. It is therefore important to make sure that no water penetrates the surface during cleaning.

For this same reason, it is important not to rinse or submerge Sophie la girafe and not to put it in the dishwasher.

If necessary, it is possible to apply a longer friction time with your cloth moistened with soapy water. The longer the contact time between the soap and the product, the more effective the cleaning effects.

Can we sterilize Sophie la girafe ?

As stated on the product packaging, we do not recommend sterilization Sophie la girafe.

Indeed, the known sterilization methods require a partial or complete immersion of the product in a sterilizing solution (boiling water or water with sterilization tablet) which could damage it.

Can we put Sophie la girafe in the bath?

It is important to remember that Sophie la girafe is not a bath toy. If water enters the product, there is a risk of damaging the whistle and the product itself.

For the bath, we offer other toys (natural rubber or plastic), which are specially designed to entertain baby in the water.

Is there a risk to the child if water stagnates in Sophie la girafe ?

There is no particular risk to your child.

However, as with any product that has a hollow body, water that penetrates and stagnates in it can cause mold.

We remind you that, if the cleaning and use instructions are followed, there is no reason for water to penetrate the product.

Can I keep Sophie la girafe for my next child?

Intended for infants and allowing the development of the 5 senses from the youngest age, Sophie la girafe is intended to be put in the mouth. Therefore, for reasons of hygiene, it should not be used by several babies, exchanged, given or resold. Like a toothbrush, a pacifier or a bottle nipple, this toy can only be enjoyed by one "little" owner.

Moreover, it is important to remember that Sophie la girafe is made of natural rubber; a "living" material that evolves over time. We therefore do not recommend the use of Sophie la girafe by a second "small" owner.

OUR QUALITY APPROACH

How are our products tested?

Vulli has always paid the greatest attention to the quality and safety of its products. Sophie la girafe is chemically and mechanically tested in several approved and independent laboratories.

We also carry out in-house quality tests at each of the 14 stages of its manufacture.

How do we certify the quality of our products?

Each Sophie la girafe produced has a batch number on one of its legs which allows a complete traceability of the product. Each number corresponds to a batch tested in an approved laboratory and attests to its conformity with the strictest European and worldwide standards in force. We are one of the few toy manufacturers in the world to offer such product traceability and therefore such a high level of safety for our consumers.

In addition, all Sophie la girafe products intended for the European market carry the CE label of the European Union. This label indicates that Vulli guarantees that the product complies with the European Toy Safety Directive. In practice, this means that all products must meet the strictest regulatory requirements in the sector.
